History of Deer Haven Farms

We purchased our 26 acres in November 2003.  Our first animals were some very friendly whitetail deer, hence the name Deer Haven Farms.  We are located in Southern Illinois, just 9 miles north of Mt Vernon (intersection of I-64 & I-57).  We are very active in showing our goats.  Vicky is a certified ABGA judge.

Our first experience with Boer goats was the purchase of two Boer X Nubian doelings from Destiny Farm.  They were a week old when we brought them home.  It took us just a few minutes to fall in love with them.  The two doelings somehow managed to multiply into our herd of over 100 goats at any time with the help of Sunny Slope Boer Goats, John Newman, Gilliam Boer Goats, MAC Goats, Able Acres, Loid Farms, River Ridge Boers, Circle R Boers, and Poor Folks Ranch  (Gary Kemp).

Acco Feeds - We feed our herd exclusively Showmaster® Boer Goat Express with Rumensin by ACCO Feeds (A Cargill Company.  This is a complete feed that we use from the time they are creep feeding at 10 days.  We are dealers for ACCO & Nutrena feeds.  For more information, please contact me via e-mail at vicky@deerhavenfarms.com and I will give you the contact info for the sales representative.  They also have a great payback program for youth!

The Goat Depot

We recently purchased property across the street from our farm that includes the original Texico train depot.  We will be renovating it and opening a "goats only" store featuring Nutrena, Acco and Showmaster feeds; Northeast Gate Equipment, and general goat supplies.  Check back for more information regarding our grand opening later this fall!
